Where are Zim's election results?

A general election was held in Zimbabwe this past weekend but the full results are not out yet. Only two thirds of the results have been released, showing slightly more parliamentary seats for the opposition. To me what is going on is very dodgy, and I would suspect one of two things is happening: - Either Mugabe’s ruling party is using this as a strategy to legitimise a continuation of the dictatorship with a narrow win that would look like a democratic result, rather than a landslide vict.

La candidate aux élections pakistanaises Benazir Bhutto a été assassinnée ce matin dans un attentat-suicide ce matin, après une réunion de son parti dans la ville de Rawalpindi, dans la banlieue d’Islamabad. La candidate avait déjà échappé, par le passé, à d’autres attentats et les autorités pakistanaises ont multiplié les alertes quant à d’éventuels attentats des islamistes la visant. 16 personnes ont été tuées dans cet attentat ce qui fait grimper à pr.

The second summit between Europe and its former African colonies has just ended. The “summit of equals”, to quote an exceedingly zealous Mr Socrates, has failed to achieve any significant breakthrough in whatever aspect of partnership. There are, nonetheless, a few highlights worth mentioning: - Democracy: I think the point was clearly made in Lisbon. The model of the enlightened leader who guides the nation forward is not only obsolete but also dangerous to the stability of African nation.

Parliamentary republics

If there is one political system in which I truly believe it certainly is the parliamentary republic (and, to a lower extent, the constitutional monarchy). I cannot think of a single country that adopted this system and did not subsequently enjoy the highest levels of transparency, accountability and efficiency in government. A cursory glance at national political regimes reveals that those countries who transitioned successfully to democracy have gone for a system that spreads power across dif.
