Selon un expert israélien, Yaniv Levi, cette tortue appartiendrait à la famille des Dermochelys Coriacea, qui sont parmi les tortues les plus géantes du monde. Elle sont très rares en Méditerranée et en voie d'extinction. son poids varie entre 300 et 500 Kg. Cette pauvre créature sans force a été capturé hier sur les rivages de la ville de Gaza.
